How to use a Call Number to Find a Book

Submitted by hollisteraj on

You’ve done a search in the library catalog for a book, but how do you find it?  What does all the stuff on the screen mean?

Step one: Write down the call number.  The call number is in the first line under the title:

Step Two:  If it is a book that you can borrow from the library (“circulating”), go upstairs.

Step Three: Find the bookshelf marked with the closest letters to the first letters in your call number:

Step Four: Find your book on the shelf:

Step Five:  Bring the book and your BCC ID card to the checkout (circulation) counter downstairs.  Done!
